Captain Picard is finally recovered from the attack on the Borg. The crew of the Enterprise are on a much deserved short leave. Soon the Enterprise will be deployed again, bit with a larger crew.
How and why would the Enterprise have a larger crew after all the casualties done by the Borg? Simply Star Fleet has suffered much loss and Star Fleet Cadets need hands on training. Many cadets are ordered to be on the Enterprise and learn, much like the young Wesley Crusher.
What happens next is up to you. Nothing must follow the plot set by the television shows. Everything is up to you! As long as you make it realistic, such as you having Riker rebel against Picard, or something the character wouldn't do. Original Characters can have more freedom as well, given they might rebel against Picard, or be a spy for Klingons, but remember not all can be traitors or whatever.
